🥳 New

🎉 My new class is out! Create then Animate: A Fall-Themed Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, & After Effects Workflow

video preview

Practice illustration in Adobe Illustrator, texturing in Photoshop, and animation in After Effects by animating colorful falling leaves.

Along the way you’ll learn tricks for creating professional-looking illustrations, time-saving tips for working more efficiently, and we’ll break into the 3D tools in After Effects to add a whole other dimension to your animations.

In the end you’ll have an animation you can put in your portfolio or post on social media to showcase your skills.

To celebrate the new class, I’m giving away a year of Skillshare membership!

To enter, post a new project in my new fall-themed "Create then Animate" class, or the first "Create then Animate" class and write a review for the class you watched.

The deadline to enter is November 23rd, 2025. A winner will be chosen randomly.

If you're not already a Skillshare member, you can sign up to participate and get a 1-month free trial with this link.

If you're already a Skillshare member and you win, a free year will be added to your membership.

🤫 Sneak Peak

Since I now have two classes called Create then Animate, one with a winter theme and one with a fall theme, it only makes sense to add spring and summer themed classes too. But, I’ll wait until spring for that. 🤪

In the meantime, I’m working on another Explanimation, and planning something exciting for Animation Explained 🤫

⚡ Quick Tip

When you click and drag a value to increase or decrease it in After Effects, you can hold the shift key to make the number change by bigger increments, or command/Ctrl to make it change by decimal places.

If you click into a value field but don’t delete the existing value, you can use the arrow keys to increase or decrease the value. Plus, if you hold shift, it changes the number 10, or if you hold command/Ctrl it will change the number by decimal places. This tip works in other Adobe programs too.

👉 Random Recommendation

Adobe MAX, the conference where Adobe announces all the new features coming out for their Creative Cloud apps, was this week. I’ve been watching online and if you have a Creative Cloud membership you can, for free, too (not sponsored, although that’d be nice 😆).

Not surprisingly, there was a big focus on AI, which as a motion designer and content creator, I have mixed feelings about. I’ve said for a long time that I wish AI would be less focused on being generative, and would instead do all the tedious tasks creators don’t want to do. Like labeling layers.

So, I was excited to see that the new AI Assistant in Photoshop can label your layers! I don’t know if a similar feature is planned for Illustrator or After Effects, but it only makes sense, right?!
